About MYRO – Interactive Upper Limb Rehabilitation

MYRO is an advanced interactive rehabilitation system designed to help people improve upper limb movement, coordination and everyday functional skills following neurological injury or illness.

Developed by Tyromotion, MYRO combines a responsive, touch-sensitive therapy surface with interactive exercises and real objects, making rehabilitation practical and engaging.

At Resilience Neuro Tees in Billingham, our specialist therapists use MYRO to support personalised rehabilitation, helping individuals practise important movements and develop skills needed for everyday independence.

How it Works

MYRO uses an interactive surface that responds to touch, pressure and movement, allowing individuals to complete exercises using their hands, arms and real objects.

The system is height-adjustable, and its therapy surface can be tilted from horizontal to vertical, allowing exercises to be completed in different positions.

Key features include:

  • Interactive therapy surface – responds to touch, pressure and movement during exercises.
  • Real-object training – allows individuals to practise everyday movements using physical objects.
  • Adjustable positioning – supports rehabilitation in sitting and standing positions.
  • Cognitive exercises – interactive activities challenge attention, problem-solving and spatial awareness.
  • Progress monitoring – integrated TyroS software records therapy performance and supports clinical assessment.

The responsive training area can be adjusted to individual abilities, allowing therapists to increase the challenge as movement and control improve.

Who can benefit from MYRO?

MYRO can support adults and children experiencing difficulties with hand and arm movement, coordination or cognitive skills following neurological injury or illness. It is particularly useful for individuals who benefit from practical, task-based rehabilitation that combines physical movement with mental engagement.

Valuable for a range of conditions

  • Stroke – practising arm and hand movements and coordination
  • Brain injury – supporting upper limb function and cognitive rehabilitation
  • Multiple sclerosis – maintaining movement and functional abilities
  • Spinal cord injury – targeted upper limb rehabilitation where appropriate
  • Cerebral palsy – developing movement control and coordination
  • Other neurological conditions – supporting individuals with reduced upper limb function or difficulties completing everyday tasks

Practising movements that matter

Everyday activities such as reaching for objects, moving items across a table or using both hands together require coordination, strength and controlled movement.

MYRO allows individuals to practise these skills through interactive tasks that reflect real-life activities.

Unlike traditional exercise equipment, MYRO can incorporate physical objects into digital exercises, helping make the connection between rehabilitation and everyday life.

Its adjustable surface also means activities can be adapted for individuals with different levels of mobility and movement ability.

Combining movement with cognitive rehabilitation

MYRO offers more than physical exercise. Its interactive programmes can also challenge cognitive skills such as attention, memory, planning and spatial awareness.

Individuals can complete activities independently or participate in interactive exercises with others, adding variety and motivation to therapy.

Benefits include:

  • Practising reaching and controlled arm movements
  • Improving hand-eye coordination
  • Supporting fine motor skills and object handling
  • Encouraging the use of both hands during activities
  • Combining movement with cognitive challenges
  • Providing measurable feedback on therapy performance

Our specialist therapists use MYRO as part of personalised rehabilitation programmes, selecting activities that reflect each person’s abilities, interests and everyday goals.
